The title of "Verily" is from the 1st word of the Qassidas chosen for this book. You'll see the word "Inna" which means "Verily," "Surely," or "Indeed," with different inflections. In any English Quran you'll see "Verily" 140-180 times in them. One may use "Verily," another may use "Surely," but if the Arabic would be beside it, you'd see "Inni" where "Verily" or "Surely" would be in English. Each of the following 10 Chapters/10 Qassidas with the word "Verily" in their titles also match the Essence of select Quran verses in their Inner Dimensions.
-Chpt 1 is titled "Anna Kaatiba Haadhihi-l Huruufi Mina Ahli Badrin" or "Verily, the Writer of these words is of The Companions of (the Battle of) Badr." Bamba is reflecting on Degrees of Unveiling, Blessings and Protection in regards to the Companions and his connection to Muhammad (pbuh).
-Chpt 2 is titled "Inna Maa Amruhu," which translates to "Verily, His Command is..." in English. This title comes from a longer phrase from the Quran that highlights the Creative Powers of Allah. This phrase is "Verily, when He Commands a thing to 'Be,' He says 'Be, and It Is."
-Chpt 3 was written during exile and is titled "Innabna 'Abdi-l Laahi." In English, this means "Verily, I Am a Servant of Allah," and I hope you are too. Surah Al-An'aam (6:162) of the Quran reads: "Say (O Muhammad): "Verily, my Salat (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the Worlds."
-Chpt 4 is an Illustration of what is called "Bay'at" or "Pledging Allegiance to a Sufi Master/Initiation" in Sufism/Sufi Orders, and is where the title of this Chapter comes from. "Inna-l Ladhiina Yubayi'uunaka" means "Verily, those who pledge allegiance to You."
-Chpt 5 is titled "Inna-l Laaha Ashtaraa" and is an excerpt from Surah Tawbah and the first sentence of Ayah/Verse 111. It says: "Verily, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties (in exchange) for that they will have Paradise." This Ayah/Verse illustrates to us the Spiritual Transaction between a believer and Allah, and Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba mirrors this essence in this very Qassida.
-Chpt 6 is titled "Inna-l Laaha Yabsutu-r Rizqa" which translates to mean "Verily, Allah extends the Provision/Sustenance." From Surah Hud (11:6) we know that: "There is no moving creature on earth whose provision/sustenance is not guaranteed by Allah. And He knows where it lives and where it is laid to rest. All is (written) in a Clear Record." In this Qassida Bamba illustrates 3 different levels of Rizq so that no matter which Degree a person may be at, they are able to see and attain.
-Chpt 7 is Qassida from the Gabon Exile titled "Innanii Udhtu" meaning "Verily, I seek Refuge" in English. This Qassida illustrates "Ta'awwudh" through Prayer even though there is only one iteration of the word itself in the Qassida. This term means "To seek Refuge with/in Allah." This Qassida may not be an Acrostic but its word-play moves like Flowing Water.
-Chpt 8 is a Post-Exile Qassida titled "Innii Aquulu" which means "Verily, I Say" in English. The first 1/3 of "Inni Aquulu" is a Prayer against any and all sins, harm, and afflictions/sickness. Surah Ash-Sharh (94:5-6) reminds us that "Verily, with difficulty comes ease. Verily, with difficulty comes ease."
-Chapter 9 shows us Bambas intention, and follow-through of a connection to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and a connection to Allah. In this connection, there is a relationship between the title of "Innii Lakhilun" or "Verily, I Am a Friend" and Surah Yunus/Jonah (10:62).
-Lastly; Chapter 10 is titled "Innii Ukhaatibu" or it is also called by its full title of "Innii Ukhaatibu-n Nasaaraa." The full title of the Qassida translates to "Verily, I Am addressing the Christians." This Qassida was written during the Gabon exile, and Gabon is primarily Christian. In it, Bamba professes Tawhid over the Trinity.
