April, 1942 - Brooklyn, New York. 17 year old Sarah Irwin leaves her waitress job at the Red Hen Diner to meet her family who are among the crowds waiting for parade of soldiers heading off to war. Her brother Robert is among them. Running late, she takes a shortcut through a back alley. Passing by a furniture store, she becomes an eyewitness to a mob killing. Running for her life, she spots the spires of St. Mary's church and decides to take refuge there. Her sister Janet, twin to Robert, is a novice there.
Detective Sergeant Oliver Elliott, who is a friend of the family's and one of Robert's best friends is on his way to meet them when he recognizes Seamus Dunn, a well known member of the Irish mob recently released from prison, running towards Sarah. He quickly gives chase. Inside the sanctuary, Oliver confronts the killer and shoots him in the shoulder, wounding him. Before he can arrest him, Seamus Dunn flees. When police arrive at the crime scene behind the furniture store the bodies of his two victims are gone. With little to no evidence to arrest him, there is not much the police can do.
When the bodies of the two men wash ashore and are identified as undercover agents, Seamus Dunn is determined to silence his only witness and any one else who stands in his way. It's just a matter of time before he finds her and Oliver, Janet and her friends will have to race against time to stop him before it's too late.
