The Float

Kai Mensah, a brilliant but adrift 25-year-old, saw his world collapse when his parents died in a freak accident. Now, after dropping out of university, he finds an unexpected knack for locks working for old-school locksmith Del Brannigan. With Del's crew the boisterous Tunde, steady Shaz, and flaky Ricky - Kai escalates from petty, insurance-covered thefts to a daring new scheme after their usual work dries up: robbing the high-street bank he himself uses.

His plan is audacious: leverage a student protest he secretly funds, use a youth phone-snatching cartel for reconnaissance, and exploit his genuine feelings for bank cashier Amara to obtain crucial information. The heist is a success, netting a cool £75,000, but the euphoria is short-lived. The fallout is immediate and devastating: Amara, sick with guilt, confronts Kai; Josh Whitfield, the student protest leader, feels used; Rocco, the cartel boss, demands an ever-larger cut; and a young cartel boy, a mirror of Kai's own past, is arrested. As the police close in and loyalties fray, Kai must choose between his own freedom and protecting the people he ensnared in his desperate gamble.
