Christian maturity is not produced by information alone. We come to know the goodness of God by walking with Him.
Tasting and Seeing is the second volume in From the Table to the World: A Discipleship Trilogy. Where Your Seat at the Table begins with the grace by which we are welcomed into the household of God, this book turns toward formation: the long, patient work of becoming a disciple whose faith is increasingly rooted in everyday life.
Across twelve sessions, Scott A. Bond explores three areas of Christian formation.
First, the God who forms us: His character, the Trinity, the incarnation and cross of Christ, and the work of the Holy Spirit.
Second, the Scripture that forms us: how the Bible works, the great story of the Old and New Testaments, and how to read Scripture for formation rather than information alone.
Third, the person being formed: our identity in Christ, the disciplines of grace, the interior battles that shape the Christian life, and the ordinary day as the primary arena of discipleship.
Each session includes questions for reflection and discussion, a practical exercise for the week, and a memory verse. The book can be read individually, but it is especially suited for small groups, discipleship cohorts, churches, and Bible college formation.
The Christian life begins with grace. Formation is learning to live from what grace has already given.
The invitation remains the ancient one: taste and see that the Lord is good.
