Originally published in London 1912, this rare early work on cockfighting is both expensive and hard to find in its first edition. We are now republishing it using the original text and artwork, in a high quality, affordable, modern edition. The author was a well known sportsman, equestrian expert and farmer, who wrote many books on these and other related subjects. No pastime has ever held in England the position which was held for centuries by cockfighting. It was, to quote the title of an old treatise, "the pleasure of Princes." It was practised by the highest of nobility and by the humblest peasant. Love of "cocking" permeated society from top to bottom. This well researched book on Cockfighting has 129 pages and contains detailed information on:- Early Cockfighting. - History. - Various Kinds of Mains. - Artificial Spurs. - Training. - Game Fowl Breeding. - Fighting Rules. - Famous Cockers. - Superstitions. - Cock-Pits. - Feeding. - Illegal Cockfighting. - etc. It also contains interesting full page illustrations of Game Fowl and cockfighting equipment. This is a fascinating read for any Game Fowl enthusiast or historian of this now illegal "sport." Many of the earliest sporting books, particularly those dating back to the 1800s, are now extremely scarce and very expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
