SexEd.edu?

Nearly 15 years ago, the Sexuality Information and§Education §Council of the United States (SIECUS) wrote that the§Internet would §be the next great technological medium and that its§inception would §usher forth a new era of comprehensive sexuality§education. Now, §nearly a decade into the 21st century, it is clear§that the Internet §increasingly pervades nearly every aspect of everyday§life, including §education. However, despite existing research that§examines both §the Internet as an educational resource and mass§media as a sex §educator, the world still knows little about the§promise of the §Internet as a resource to aid educators who yearn to§provide §students (and parents) with medically accurate,§age-appropriate §comprehensive "healthy" sex education. "SexEd.edu?"§uses §standards developed by SIECUS in conjunction with§information §provided by K-8 educators to evaluate the Internet as§a healthy sex §educator. Through an investigation of several§popular sexuality §education websites, this book hopes to demonstrate§the potential of §the Internet to aid in the development and execution§of classroom-§based healthy sex education.
