While the denomination upholds baptism as a post-conversion ordinance, its preparation materials, pastoral language, and instruction frequently reflect sacramental assumptions, attributing to baptism a role in forgiveness, justification, and the reception of the Holy Spirit. Tracing these tensions to the influence of Alexander Campbell and Restorationist thought, the book evaluates where practice diverges from stated belief and calls for greater coherence in Adventist teaching.
