Un historique de la vie religieuse des Russes en France, dont les premiers témoignages sont liés aux chapelains venus dans la suite des représentants officiels, dès le règne du jeune Louis XIII. L'ouvrage relate les visites des souverains russes, de Pierre le Grand à Nicolas II, le séjour des nombreux Russes de passage à Paris, ou installés à long terme, tel Anatole Démidov, l'époux de la princesse Mathilde, ou la comtesse de Ségur. Après bien des déplacements dans Paris au gré des hôtels où logeait l'ambassade, la chapelle russe nomade fait place à l'église construite en 1861 rue Daru, dans le style historicisant qui fait la synthèse architecturale des grands courants architecturaux russe et byzantin. Parallèlement se déroule l'histoire religieuse de la communauté orthodoxe de Paris, avec les portraits de son clergé, de ses paroissiens de haut lignage ou d'humble origine, illustres ou anonymes. -- A history of the religious life of Russians in France, whose earliest testimonies come from chaplains in the suite of visiting officials during the reign of the young Louis XIII. The author also relates the visits of Russian sovereigns, from Peter the Great to Tsar Nicolas II; the stays of many Russians just passing through Paris or settled in the city for longer periods, like Anatole Démidov, husband to Princess Mathilde, or the Comtesse de Segur. After moving around Paris from one hotel to the next, following the embassy, the wandering Russian chapel was finally replaced by a church constructed in Rue Daru in 1861, in a would-be historical style that offered an architectural synthesis of the great Russian and Byzantine schools. The narrative also tells the religious history of the Parisian orthodox community, with portraits of its clergy and its parishioners, aristocratic and humble alike, famous or anonymous.
