Animals play an important role in Regula Syz's expressive representational painting - and ravens are chief among them. The artist has been depicting ravens and various aspects of their character for over twenty-five years, frequently highlighting the many positive associations that corvids enjoy in cultures from northern Europe to India and Japan. As a result of their remarkable intelligence, ravens have long been considered bringers of light. They are heralds of insight, transition, and change. Their shimmering black plumage unites darkness and light, the earthly and the divine: the two worlds between which these birds mediate.
