I 1915 blev Peter Nissen Post indkaldt som soldat i den tyske hćr. Han var fřdt og opvokset i Spandet lige syd for den davćrende dansk-tyske grćnse. Efter 5 mĺneders rekruttid blev han sendt til Řstfronten, taget til fange og sendt til en krigsfangelejr i Sarapol inde i Ural-bjergene. Peter Post kom til Danmark i efterĺret 1918, men kunne ikke vende tilbage sit hjem i Sřnderjylland, da han blev betragtet som deserteret soldat. Omkring 35.000 sřnderjyder blev sendt til fronten i 1. verdenskrig, og heraf blev ca. 7000 drćbt, mange sad i krigsfangelejre i Frankrig, England og Rusland, og de fleste vendte hjem med ar pĺ sjćl og krop. "Peter Post's Dagbog" er en nřje gengivelse af den hĺndskrevne dagbog. Peter Post fortćller om oplevelserne ved fronten, rejsen gennem Rusland, og sćrligt beskriver han dagliglivet i fangelejren. Siderne om hans hjemrejse er forsvundet fra dagbogen, men hans datter, Didde Pedersen, har bĺde skrevet og fortalt om hjemrejsen ud fra det, hun har fĺet fortalt og har lćst som barn. Hans barnebarn har rekonstrueret hjemrejsen ud fra fortćllinger i familien og ud fra historiske kilder.
