Peter and the Wolf

Peter Young has always preferred cartoons to people. In the bright, elastic world of hand-drawn animation, the innocent are protected, villains receive exactly what they deserve, and even the most terrible violence can be erased before the next scene begins.

The real world is not so forgiving.

Six years after one violent moment destroyed his life, Peter is released from prison with nowhere to live, little hope of finding work and only one true companion: Mutton, the manic, wisecracking cartoon wolf he has drawn since childhood-and whom nobody else can see.

Then Peter is offered a second chance at Dreamland, a struggling animation studio and amusement park built on nostalgia, imagination and the promise of happier times. For the first time in years, his artistic dreams seem within reach. But as Peter begins rebuilding his life, the people who have hurt him-and those who prey upon the vulnerable-start meeting gruesome, strangely theatrical ends.

A determined detective believes the deaths are connected. Peter insists he is innocent. And Mutton's grin keeps getting wider.
