These are reprints of two sets of notes by Sir Aeneas Mackintosh of Mackintosh, the 23rd Chief of Clan Mackintosh. He lived from 1751 to 1820, and was the clan chief from 1770 until his death..

Notes Descriptive and Historical is reprinted from a scanned original of a book printed in 1893 from a manuscript written by Sir Aeneas starting in about 1774 and finishing in about1784. "Notes by a Highland Chief in 1784" is reprinted from a 1997 reprint based on a 1931 publication.
