Night Shift
They never miss a shift.
Kayla Bennett has been a nurse for eleven years, the last six on nights at Saint Agnes Hospital. She knows the quiet hours, the dying patients, and the paperwork that explains everything away.
Then eight bags of blood go missing from a locked fridge, and a pool of blood on the floor shows no reflection.
Soon the deaths start to pile up: an old man drained before his heart stops, a patient who loses eleven pounds in six hours, a sedated man drowning in his own blood. Every death is signed off as routine. Every question gets a kind, reasonable answer. Nobody on the day shift remembers a thing.
Kayla and a few other tired night workers begin to notice what the building is hiding. Some of the staff cast no reflection in a mirror, a puddle, or a window. They feed on the patients no one will miss, the uninsured, the unhoused, and the old, and a hospital administrator makes sure the system keeps running.
When the group learns Saint Agnes is only the beginning, they have one night to act. And the more Kayla learns, the more she recognizes the hunger in herself.
For readers of vampire horror, medical thrillers, and slow-burn dread, Night Shift shows how the worst monsters are the ones the system protects.
