Mac Versus Monsters

Cumbria: a land of brooding fells, mist-shrouded lakes, and secrets that have slumbered since the last Ice Age. But when the "static" on the fells resolves into something deadlier than the weather, only one man can stand between the human world and the ancient entities of folklore.

Meet Connor "Mac" McClymont. A retired Royal Military Police investigator with a face carved from granite and eyes that miss nothing, Mac is a man haunted by a war he never truly left. Living as a nomad in "The Badger", a black-and-white, military-spec Land Rover ambulance, he seeks only the quiet of the road. But in the rugged Lake District, the veil between reality and myth is wearing thin.

Across eight interlinked stories, Mac is pulled into a secret, eternal war as the Warden, a reluctant border guard marked with a silver scar and sworn to protect the unseen boundaries between Natural and Supernatural. From the soul-crushing cold of the Skiddaw Ghost and the territorial nobility of the Fae of Elva Hill, to the predatory hunger of the Bassenthwaite Eachy and the ancient malevolence of the Genius Loci, Mac must face the monsters that legends forgot to tell us were real.

Armed with an investigator's razor edge, silver-tipped rounds, and the weight of a bloody past, Mac must navigate a landscape where the ancient rules of myth are the only ones that matter.

The hunt is on. The border is breached. And for Connor "Mac" McClymont, the watch has just begun.
