Geburtshelfer oder Produktmanager?§§Lektoren sind als geistige Geburtshelfer, als Autoren-Dompteure, Wünschelrutengänger sowie als Projekt- und Produktmanager bezeichnet worden. Sie sind unsichtbare Verlagsmitarbeiter, über deren Berufssituation wenig bekannt ist.§§Die vorliegende Studie untersucht erstmals empirisch Berufsbild, Anforderungsprofile und Arbeitsweisen der Lektoren in deutschen Buchverlagen. Wie sieht ihr beruflicher Alltag aus? Wie steht es um ihren sozialen Status, ihr Selbstverständnis und ihre Zufriedenheit? Welche Einflussfaktoren bestimmen die Lektoratsarbeit?§§Die Studie liefert präzise Daten zu Ausbildung, Anforderungen, Aufgaben und Tätigkeiten dieses unbekannten Kommunikationsberufs. Darüber hinaus werden die gegenwärtige Struktur des Verlagswesens und die Zukunftsperspektiven der Buchproduktion analysiert. Einige Ergebnisse der Befragung: Viele Lektoren sind Quereinsteiger: 55 Prozent haben vor ihrer jetzigen Tätigkeit bereits in einem anderen Beruf gearbeitet. Lektor ist ein Frauenberuf: Fast zwei Drittel der Befragten sind weiblichen Geschlechts. Lektoren arbeiten überdurchschnittlich viel: In Vollzeit beschäftigte Lektoren kommen im Schnitt auf gut 45 Stunden in der Woche. Lektoren leisten einen Spagat zwischen verschiedenen Ansprüchen: Fast alle sehen sich zunächst als Diener des Verlags. Danach fühlen sie sich den Interessen der Autoren verpflichtet.§§Am Forschungsprojekt waren Susanne Pypke und Christian Klenk als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter beteiligt.
