Regionalized health care decision-makers have accessto a wealth of knowledge with which to inform theirdecisions. Little is known, however, about how thevarious types of knowledge are managed to optimizetheir use in decision-making. Thisstudy examinesthe knowledge management strategies of health caredecision-makers working in the context of aregionalized health care system. The study is guidedby a qualitative research design. It is concludedthat Regional Health Authorities (RHAs) in Canadapursue a codification strategy more strongly than apersonalization strategy of managing knolwedge attheir disposal in decision making. Further,knowledge management practices and strategies werein place, despite the absence of a stated knowledgemanagement policy. Recommendations include the needfor RHAs to institutionalize a knowledge managementpolicy to guide their knowledge management practicesand strategies.
