Knowledge Integration in Software Teams

Contemporary organizations use teams to exploit §their knowledge resources. Software companies are a §case in the point. Software teams possess diverse §portfolios of know-how, skills, and abilities that §are integrated with knowledge inputs from external §sources to achieve the team''s objectives. But, there §are a host of issues that can affect how well the §team integrates its internal and external knowledge §resources. The search for these issues begins with §some pertinent questions, such as: Should the team be more diverse or homogeneous in §terms of its members'' knowledge, skills, and §abilities? Does the team need to perform boundary buffering §processes to manage the inflow and outflow of §information and knowledge? How does project uncertainty affect team s §knowledge integration? How does team s interdependence with other teams §affect its knowledge integration? Should the team focus on using various §collaborative and knowledge-sharing technologies for §knowledge integration?§This book tries to answer these questions. That §said, the book is not prescriptive in nature. §Though, it does end with speculative recommendations §for the readers.
