Glorious Garden Flowers in Watercolor

Paint Brilliant Watercolors With a Master

Creating the finest details with exquisite light and focus, in Glorious Garden Flowers in Watercolor Susan Harrison-Tustain brings her flower garden images to life by incorporating natural finishing touches such as insects, dew drops, and broken leaf tips. Harrison-Tustain captures the essence of each scene by first painting a loose background and then building upon that detail by detail, resulting in images which reflect a riveting reality. Self-taught and undaunted by the standard practices she was breaking, she developed a bold new approach to watercolor. "I had pushed past the preconceived boundaries and was achieving texture and depth," she says of her early years.
Sharing her techniques in 17 clear, step-by-step demonstrations, Harrison-Tustain shows how to make garden scenes come alive: Applying thin washes at first, building layer by layer, and finishing with very accurate highlights of color, texture, and vibrant light. With details of her signature priming method, different types of pigments, tools and materials, Harrison-Tustain offers everything a student needs to bring life to their subject. These techniques can be applied to any scene in which the brilliance of detail and light are essential. This book is a resource to be kept close at hand and referred to repeatedly.
One of New Zealand's premiere floral artists for nearly 3 decades, Susan Harrison-Tustain's work is well-known throughout Australia, North America, and Europe, and has regularly graced the cover of New Zealand Gardener magazine.
