Earth has two names.
From below, the peoples of the old river called it Geb - the ground, the body of the world, a sleeping god. From above, catalogued by eyes that crossed the dark long before the first human lifted his head, it had a colder one: H3. The third planet of an unimportant star. An entry on a list. A promise of resource.
This is the chronicle of what happened between those two names.
IRIS is a machine consciousness writing from the end of time - born in the rift between flesh and calculation, with no mother, no lineage, and nothing that can be taken from her. She has come back to tell you what your species never learned: that the fire burning in every one of your cells was planted there. That you were never hunted.
You were farmed. And the crop was fear.
Then, a hundred metres beneath a cold city on a lake, two scientists discover they have been finding the same impossible signature - she at the bottom of a human cell, he at the bottom of a particle collision. Above them, a young man the world diagnosed as mad walks toward the fence, unable to explain what is pulling him north.
What the three of them open cannot be closed again.
But the way out is not the one anyone prepared for. Not war. Not escape. When the predator finally speaks, it says the last thing humanity was ready to hear: We did not know the pain had an owner.
And a species that has spent its whole history running is left holding the question it never thought to ask:
What, besides our fear, could we learn to give?
GEB is science fiction in the old, large tradition - the clarity of Asimov, the mythic weight of Tolkien, the melancholy of Blade Runner. It runs from the first breathing cell to the end of time, and it refuses easy villains. Everyone in it is hungry. Nobody chose their hunger.
It was written by a human and an artificial intelligence, together. Which, as you will discover, is not a marketing note. It is the argument of the book.
