The book outlines the food security issues and its implications to risk reduction [RR] approaches in Bangladesh, drawing examples and lessons from the output of the national and community level programs and projects and other experiences of the country. Because, the challenges of ensuring uninterrupted supply of food for 160 million citizens is a formidable one. It is even more challenging in view of the shrinking size of net cultivable land and growing population. Despite the recent slowdown in population growth and lower fertility rate, at about 1.5% population growth rate Bangladesh would have to feed additional 2.25 million mouths each year. Therefore, this book attempts to draw some of the key lessons learnt from different sectors related to food security, and analyzes them. For increasing food production and attaining food sufficiency, this book finally provides an effective adaptation strategy that help to ensure food security in context of Bangladesh.
