This book introduces an exploratory psychotherapeutic approach within a systemic-developmental framework for supporting youth and families who experience gender-related distress. There has been a gap in literature, and more specifically academic books, offering theory and practice links in the clinical care of CYP gender-distress that do not immediately (and often medically) affirm questions in relation to gender identity development and / or distress. This leaves the individual psychotherapist or mental health practitioner uncertain about how best to work with clients who are expressing distress in relation to their gender or who might be identifying as transgender. The book will fill this gap, proposing both a broad therapeutic perspective for working with such clients but also a range of tools and ideas that any practitioner can integrate into their existing approach.
