Entranced

Set at the end of World War One, this novel is old-fashioned in tone, but not in the events depicted. Young John, newly married and scarred emotionally from the war scenes he experienced, is a highly sexed young man, who has an appreciative wife. He falls under the thrall of a successful businessman, politician and sportsman who is an expert in the new science of psychotherapy.

Can such a man have so strong an influence over another, so as to change his personality? Is such a thing be described as being "entranced"?

Here we also have a panoply of characters who take turns in narrating their part of the story, which involves intrigue, the beginnings of a Government Secret Service and as with all Richard Peters' novels, many descriptive sexual scenes.

This is one of the author's more complete, rounded-out novels, mixing excitement with full characterisation and sexual stimulation, making it a satisfying read for adult males and curious females.

It lay provocatively up his stomach and I could see a fine, silky-thin sheath covered an eager, bulb shape with a definite ridge, making it look like an onion still on its stalk. The hood was barely able to contain the bulb the tip of which winked from between the puckers of the sheath. So, this was what a husband was and the effect his wife had upon him!"
