Das Buch setzt sich mit der Stellung der Hebamme sowohl in der Geburtshilfe allgemein als auch gegenüber dem Arzt auf Grundlage ihrer zivilrechtlichen Haftung auseinander. Dabei greift das Werk die aktuelle Debatte auf und berücksichtigt die jüngsten Gesetzesänderungen. Neben einer Betrachtung der vertraglichen und deliktischen Haftungsgrundlagen wird auch der Haftungsumfang beleuchtet. Ein weiteres Kapitel widmet sich den Behandlungspflichten und -fehlern der Hebamme, wobei die Aufklärung und die Einwilligung eine gesonderte Stellung einnehmen. Im Anschluss werden verfahrensrechtliche Besonderheiten der Hebamme, insbesondere innerhalb des Beweisrechts, in den Blick genommen. Das letzte Kapitel beschäftigt sich sodann mit der Problematik der Haftpflichtprämien und beleuchtet dabei verschiedene Konzepte zur Verbesserung der Versicherungssituation der Hebamme.
