Mikrofinanzierung gilt als eines der erfolgreichsten Programme der Entwicklungspolitik. Während dieser Bereich lange Zeit von NGOs oder öffentlichen Entwicklungsprojekten dominiert wurde, hat er sich in den letzten Jahren einer Kommerzialisierung unterzogen, was signifikante Veränderungen für viele Bereiche der traditionellen Mikrofinanzierung brachte. Inhaltlich sollte der Wandel von einem Wohltätigkeitinstrument zu einem Investitionsprodukt indessen keine Veränderung für das Oberziel der Armutsbekämpfung bringen, sondern durch die gleichzeitige Verwirklichung von sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Zielsetzungen eine Win-win- Situation schaffen. Die vorliegende Arbeit setzt sich neben den Grundlagen der Mikrofinanzierung mit diesem Paradigmenwechsel und seinen Implikationen auseinander. Am Beispiel Indonesiens lassen sich dabei im Zuge der Kommerzialisierung sowohl Potenziale als auch Risiken in der Umsetzung feststellen.
