Come Know Me

I have known a tremendous amount of what we call Christian Living and Christian Devotional books in my life. Some of them have transformed me in profound ways. However, I have also found that many of them do something I know to be unintentional, but happen nonetheless: They appeal to our selfishness. We open the pages asking the central question, if not overtly then subconsciously, what will I get from this, or what can I hope to receive? What we often find are snippets of Scripture, many times taken out of context in the hopes it will bring you some relief from life, all in a short read designed to keep your attention in a world filled with shorts and reels. I will tell you, even with tears, I love you. But, more than that, He loves you, and with an unbelievable intensity. Such love does not want you to visit for a few minutes and rush back to your harried days. He wants to sit with you, talk with you, and surround you with His love to the point you are changed into freedom, joy, hope, purity, and goodness.

In Come Know Me, I am attempting to fill a perceived gap, the space between our instinct to approach the Messiah to see how He might fit into our lives, and instead, see how we might orbit around Him. He is the Word made flesh, the very revelation of our Father and the heart of all Scripture. So, each entry is substantial in its reliance on Scripture, oftentimes carefully incorporating numerous texts to support the themes of each chapter. Also, every entry is substantial in content, seeking to balance depth with quantity in a way that is not overwhelming or too dense, but instead just enough to deeply nurture you with the message. Additionally, there are specifically 52 entries, designed to sustain you for a year. Each chapter is created to contain enough to bring you back several times within the week to continually feed further on the revelations within. Therefore, it is not a daily digest meant for a quick-fix culture, but a weekly invitation to dwell and contemplate. Finally, Come Know Me is prophetic in not just its message, but in its voice. Each chapter is written from the perspective of Jesus. His tone is warm, loving, instructional, demanding, and inviting. The hope is that you will engage with Scripture and the living Savior in a deeply personal and dynamic way. The language of this work is intentionally designed to be lavish and extravagant, heavy with rich metaphor and symbolism. Thus, it is hoped you will encounter a personal interaction with Christ within a sacred place of intimacy invoked by the first-person perspective of Jesus inviting His people to come close and be one with Him. I want you to hear His voice to you, His beloved in every line. I want you to respond by slowing down to listen, and by seeing Him you will find a life you had only dreamed.
