Circus Beneath The Walls

Four parapsychology students-newlyweds Andrea and Caleb, plus friends Jace and Delaney-arrive at the infamous Clown Motel in Nevada to investigate paranormal activity connected to a nearby cemetery of over 300 miners. The manager casually warns: "If you hear footsteps from empty rooms-don't open your door."

In Room 108, Andrea finds a mural with overworked clown eyes and a hidden seam. That night, scratching comes from behind the painted mouth. A doll with "ROOM 108" written on its neck appears mysteriously. The phenomena escalate: missing objects, flickering lights, a childlike giggle in empty corridors.

Research reveals the entity is a "Trickster"-a cross-cultural archetype that feeds on fear and engagement. Beneath the motel lie mining tunnels where seventeen men died in the 1911 Belmont fire, their spirits trapped in dolls serving as "vessels." The Trickster isn't the trapped entity-it's the lock, feeding on their century-old confinement.

The team discovers a sealed crawlspace containing dozens of cracked dolls, each holding a fragment of the trapped miners. The dead plead through EVP recordings: "Let us out."

The Trickster selects Andrea specifically, sensing her relentless drive to understand. It takes Jace, then Delaney. Andrea finds a journal detailing a ritual to "unbind" the entity through complete understanding-the "honest fracture."

Executing the ritual, Andrea discovers the Trickster has redirected into Caleb. She breaks the intact doll by speaking the accurate description of what the entity truly is. The released warmth passes through her, then Caleb, then into the tunnel system. The miners, now home, push against their confinement. The tunnels collapse-not violently, but healing, sealing themselves.

The surviving couple escapes, but Jace and Delaney remain unaccounted for-their rooms "cleared." At a new motel, phenomena follow them: a postcard with a watching silhouette, the giggle through an unplugged clock radio. The Trickster hasn't died. It has found a new place to wait.
