Buch und Reformation

Unbestritten gilt der Buchdruck zumindest im ersten Jahrzehnt der Reformation als entscheidender Faktor für die Ausbreitung der evangelischen Botschaft. Erst der Buchdruck ermöglichte den Erfolg Luthers und seiner Mitstreiter. Durch die religiöse Auseinandersetzung wurde das Buch als Vehikel des Glaubenskampfes symbolisch aufgeladen. Für die Reformatoren symbolisierten die Bücher den säkularen und theologisch-religiösen Fortschritt der evangelischen Bewegung. Der vorliegende Sammelband thematisiert die Bedeutung des Buches im 16. Jahrhundert aus theologiegeschichtlicher und kulturhistorischer Perspektive und bietet Einzeluntersuchungen zur Buch- und Bibliotheksgeschichte in den mitteldeutschen Territorien des Heiligen Römischen Reiches Deutscher Nation. Die einzelnen Beiträge gehen auf Vorträge der Fachtagung Buch und Reformation zurück, die vom 6. bis zum 8. Mai 2011 im Cranach-Haus in Wittenberg stattfand. [Book and Reformation. Books and Libraries in 16th Century Central Germany]Beyond dispute book printing, at least during the early stage of the reformation, was a decisive factor in the spread of the Protestant message. It was the printing technology that facilitated the success of the Lutheran party. Through the religious struggle the book as its prime vehicle became a symbolically charged medium, as it embodied the secular as well as the theological and religious progress of the Protestant movement. This volume explores the significance of the book during the 16th century from a perspective that considers both theological and cultural history. It features case studies on the book and library history in the central German territories of the Holy Roman Empire. The articles are based on papers presented at the symposium Book and Reformation , held from May 6 - 8, 2011 at the Cranach-Haus in Wittenberg.
