Before The Last Bell Rings

One choir. Eight bells. And a town that has been waiting a very long time.

Rowan Ashby has come to Kingsford to start again. The new choir director at St Petroc's is sunny, organised and determined to make her choir sing like angels by Christmas. She lasts one Sunday before she discovers the church's other tradition: the bells ring from quarter past nine to half past, exactly when her choir needs to warm up.

Gethin Morgan is the captain of the tower. A carpenter with endless patience for learners and none at all for choir directors who come up his stairs without knocking, he has his reasons for never setting foot in the nave, and he isn't sharing them.

Then the vicar gives them one job to do together: a Christmas Eve concert with bells and choir, for the first time since 1998.

Fifteen weeks. Fourteen singers. One boy with a voice nobody is allowed to hear. And two people who will have to come down from where they're standing if they're ever going to meet in the middle.

A warm, funny, heart-lifting Christmas romance about grief, courage and learning to listen. Closed door.
