Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 1997 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 1,0, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Veranstaltung: Augustus, 9 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, den Herrscherkult unter Augustus näher darzustellen und die Frage zu diskutieren, ob Augustus den Herrscherkult bewusst als Mittel zu seiner Divinisierung eingesetzt hat oder ob seine Verehrung Bedürfnissen der Bevölkerung entsprang.Einleitend gibt es einen kurzen Überblick über die Geschichte der Herrscherverehrung von den alten Hochkulturen bis zum Beginn der römischen Kaiserzeit.Anschließend folgt eine allgemeine Darstellung der augusteischen Kulte, sowie gesondert die der Kulte in den Provinzen und der in Rom praktizierten. Dabei werde ich ausführlicher auf den Kult des Genius Augusti eingehen.Nachdem ich so einen Überblick über den Herrscherkult allgemein und im speziellen bei Augustus gegeben habe, werde ich abschließend anhand gegensätzlicher Forschermeinungen auf die Frage eingehen, ob Augustus sich im Gebrauch bzw. Missbrauch des Herrscherkultes zurückhielt, oder diesen zu seinen Gunsten, d.h. zur Divinisierung seiner Person, eingesetzt und ausgenutzt hat. Anhand einiger schriftlicher Quellen Suetons und Augustus (Kaiserviten, Res Gestae) sowie mehrerer Münzabbildungen wird die Frage erörtert, von wem die Initiative zur Verehrung des Augustus ausging.
