Among The Crows

That's Curto's philosophy at least as he and his family follow behind King Havelish as he wages war against the self-proclaimed true heir to the throne of Carnum, the Bastard Baron. Curto, however, only cares to scavenge the scenes of carnage left in their wake until he finds a piece too good to be true. The ring of a dead wizard falls into his hands, and he'll need the help of an old man reliving his glory days and a mad witch to survive those who would seek to take the ring from him.

Meanwhile, Curto's wife, Annalise, finds herself caught in a web of greed as she seeks to unburden herself from a debt to a traveling gambling hall. Their daughter, Mayla, has taken it on herself to return a locket that she's scavenged from a soldier to a woman whose name she learned from his dying words. Lastly, their son, Augus, dreams of escaping the scavenging to fulfill his dream of becoming a knight, but he'll find that neither path ends without blood.

These stories will all collide in a violent conclusion as the dysfunctional family finds their own way to survive. Among The Crows is inspired by the strange magic of Discworld, and the bloody characters of the First Law. The Black Verses are standalone stories, and they are meant to be read in any order, but events from other books might be mentioned, and characters may crossover.
