This book offers a groundbreaking study of the works of Alan Moore - the acclaimed author of "Watchmen". Alan Moore (b. 1953) is one of the most acclaimed and controversial writers to emerge since the late 1970s. His oeuvre includes a large number of highly regarded graphic novels and comic books - including "Watchmen" (1987) and "V for Vendetta" (1982-1988) - as well as the occasional work of music, poetry, performance, and prose. This groundbreaking volume argues that Moore employs the comic form to dissect the literary canon, the tradition of the comic book, contemporary society, and our understanding of history. It considers Moore's narrative strategies and pinpoints the main thematic threads that run throughout his works - including the subversion of genre and pulp fiction, the interrogation of the superhero, the manipulation of space and time, the use of magic and mythology. By analyzing both his best-known works and his lesser-known output, this volume reveals Moore to be one of the most significant and distinctly post-modern comics creators of the last quarter-century.
