A reluctant bride is trapped in a mysterious château, where her only escape is through the enchanted storybooks belonging to the Fey Library.

In a small port town where stories are a currency, there is a cliff the locals call Weatherby, with a mysteriously haunted château erected on its very peak. Lore has always surrounded the grand chancellor in his isolated estate. Though he has not been seen or heard from in centuries, he finally breaks his silence to announce a competition.

Every available woman in Heretofore will have the opportunity to become his bride, earning the title of reigning grand dame. They need only write a story that will capture his heart. But no tale, however inventive, could foretell the secrets stowed away above the town. For long ago, a muse cast a wicked curse upon Weatherby, so that all who cross the grounds may never leave.

To ease his reluctant bride of her newfangled imprisonment, the grand chancellor gifts her an enchanted library filled with books like no other. They are for reading, of course, but they are for exploring more than anything else. Each title is charmed so that his wife may step inside and venture into any world she pleases with only two restrictions: she must never open the locked book in his study, and no matter which story she enters, she must never fall asleep, lest she forget their homeland and remain lost among the pages forever.
