A young woman. A dating app. A seemingly ordinary meeting that ended in murder.
In November 2017, twenty-four-year-old Sydney Loofe connected with Bailey Boswell through Tinder. What appeared to be an ordinary date would become the beginning of one of Nebraska's most disturbing criminal investigations.
Sydney disappeared after meeting Boswell for a second time. As investigators began retracing her final movements, a disturbing world of deception, fraud, manipulation, and bizarre beliefs slowly emerged.
At the center of that world was Aubrey Trail, a convicted con man who had spent years creating false identities and persuading people to believe extraordinary stories. Beside him was Boswell, the woman he called his "queen."
What initially appeared to be a missing-person case soon became something far more devastating.
Investigators followed cellphone records, messages, surveillance footage, financial evidence, and witness accounts to reconstruct the events surrounding Sydney's disappearance. Their investigation ultimately led to two separate murder trials, two convictions, and two dramatically different sentences.
But behind the courtroom proceedings was a much larger story.
How does a stranger become trusted enough to enter someone's life? How can manipulation remain hidden until it is too late? And how did a world built on deception ultimately lead to the death of a young woman who believed she was simply going on a date?
A Date With Deception reconstructs the case of Sydney Loofe and examines the people, relationships, lies, and decisions that surrounded her final days.
This is not simply the story of a murder.
It is a story about trust, identity, manipulation, and the dangerous consequences of believing someone who has spent years learning how to deceive.
