The limited studies conducted on women in Upper Egypt have revealed a reality fraught with challenges for women there. This unfortunate reality, as revealed by these studies, places an intellectual and moral responsibility on the media and mass communication channels, given their pivotal role and immense influence in shaping public awareness about women and the challenges they face. All these conditions, which we have examined and attempted to document their positive and negative manifestations and repercussions in Upper Egyptian communities, are what motivated us to undertake this research project. This project complements our previous one, submitted to UNESCO in 2004 and approved in 2006, which was subsequently published as a book titled "e;Women and the Media in Upper Egypt."e; The current research focuses on the impact of media on women and development in Upper Egypt.
