To Feed the Fire: Stories Sparked by Art and Life

This collection of seven stories and novelettes takes readers from the dusty tombs of ancient Egypt to the media-saturated and crime-haunted America of the 1990s and beyond.Meet a friendly neighborhood necrophile taxidermist who's about to have a very strange day; a solitary witch who learns the importance of a familiar; a pair of drifters whose complicated relationship must face an apocalyptic threat; and a dedicated veterinary assistant forced to protect the patients from the doctor as society devolves around her.Hear a doomed villain's side of a timeless story of loss, and the memories of a trafficker of pharaonic artifacts, as recounted in the afterlife.Read a teenager's wistful letter to the older sister whose actions and infamy both changed his life completely and separated the two of them forever.A blend of invention and homage, these stories are both old and new- written over a time period spanning three decades- and a testament to the fact that each spark of creative energy in the world can lead to another.
