This Day in History, Volume 5

"e;This Day in History,"e; a daily column written by Najdat Fathi Safwat over five years, explores a significant historical event that occurred on that particular day of the year, or a historical figure's biography. In this volume, we read about important figures, both ancient and modern, such as Shajar al-Durr, the British military commander Allenby, Ibrahim Touqan (the poet of the famous anthem "e;Mawtini"e;), and Mohamed Abdel Wahab (the singer of kings and princes). We also read about Napoleon's death in exile on an island in the Atlantic Ocean and the Algerian revolution of Abdelkader. Furthermore, we find stories of important explorers like Columbus and Diaz, the discoverer of the Cape of Good Hope. We also read about the strange story of the spy Kim Philby and the British diplomats who disappeared before him, along with other events such as the end of the British Mandate for Palestine and the subsequent Nakba, as well as the convening of the first Arab summit conference and the founding of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The book consists of 12 volumes, to be published sequentially.
