Sari's Shop

Ramchand is a simple young Indian man. Since he was fifteen, he has worked in a sari shop in Amritsar, India. He spends his days spreading out fabrics and dresses, displaying them to upper-class women and young brides. But his monotonous life displeases him; it constantly troubles him, and he is plagued by a persistent feeling of helplessness and inadequacy. He doesn't want to be just a small, insignificant salesman in a sari shop, so he sets himself a goal and decides to improve his English. He buys used books and a dictionary, diligently reading and memorizing different words. But his life doesn't continue in this way for long. Distant tragedies befall people far removed from him. An elderly couple loses their two sons in a horrific explosion, and a man suffers from a wife who has lost all interest in life. How will Ramchand allow these tragedies to affect him?
