More than twenty years have passed since the first installment of The Matrix, the final part of which was released in 2021. The story, created by the Wachowski sisters and enjoying immense popularity, begins in 2090, where artificial intelligence has advanced significantly, replacing humans in all manual jobs. At that time, a robot kills its owner, sparking a war between humans and robots that lasted for years, until the robots emerged victorious. The film, released in 1999, achieved the highest box office earnings in Hollywood history at the time and built a large fan base that saw it as science fiction that could become a reality in light of rapid technological advancements. Since then, much of what was once considered science fiction has transformed into reality, most notably artificial intelligence. In the last decade, artificial intelligence (AI) has developed significantly thanks to a technology called Deep Learning. This technology empowers AI to reason, think independently, and learn on its own, freeing it from the constraints of "e;narrow AI,"e; which simply means programming a machine to perform a specific function without thought. Undoubtedly, humanity is on the cusp of a new revolution that will transform human life a revolution rooted in artificial intelligence. This revolution is comprehensive, impacting various social, economic, security, and other aspects of life, as AI applications are branching out and multiplying at an almost unimaginable rate, permeating nearly every facet of human experience. Will we live in a Matrix-like world? Or will AI become just another new technology we become accustomed to, like many other technologies that initially frighten many before becoming an integral part of our daily lives? The answer will undoubtedly be revealed in the near future. But for now, let's take a brief look back at the history of AI, exploring its past and future.
